Conde Lysa Uwizeyimana
Rwanda
Conde is an environmental engineer and consultant with an interest in climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. This year, she contributed to the development of the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the mining sector in Rwanda through the UNDP and the Ministry of Environment. This project gave Conde unparalleled exposure to the environmental and social priorities in the sector as she conducted extensive consultations with mine managers at more than 15 mine sites, civil societies, and affected communities. As a result, her team developed a series of recommendations to the government that are aimed at tackling the environmental and social priorities in the sector. This work has been key in ensuring that mining operations are sustainable and contribute to the development of the livelihoods of surrounding communities. In 2017, Conde was one of the 100 youth leaders selected to participate in AU-EU Youth Summit in Abidjan. She has plans to start a master's in environmental management at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
