Alana Richmond-Rex is the president of Oma Tafua, a nonprofit that addresses the lack of data, research, and education on marine mammal protection and their heritage in the South Pacific. As a community leader, Alana advocates for Indigenous rights and leads environmental protection efforts across a diverse range of initiatives. She also co-founded Niue Entrepreneurial Women, an organization dedicated to empowering female entrepreneurs and amplifying the strength of women’s groups in Niue. Of Niuean descent, Alana is a leader who wears many hats to protect the people and natural resources of Niue, a small island nation of less than 2,000 people.
