Carine Kanimba
2024-2025 Obama Foundation Europe Leader
Spokesperson, World Liberty Congress
Belgium
Carine Kanimba is a spokesperson for the World Liberty Congress, the largest global movement of pro-democracy leaders who represent 60 countries ruled by autocratic governments. A survivor of Rwanda’s 1994 genocide, Carine lost both parents to ethnic violence and was adopted by a humanitarian who saved 1,200 lives during the genocide, inspiring the movie “Hotel Rwanda.” In 2020, when her father was unjustly imprisoned, she and her family led an international campaign that secured his release in 2023, and worked with the World Liberty Congress to develop a handbook for other families working to free political prisoners. Carine testified before the U.S. House Intelligence Committee and the European Parliament in 2021, advocating for regulation of the spyware industry.
