Lumir Lapray
2024-2025 Obama Foundation Europe Leader
Rural Organizer, Démocratiser la Politique
France
Lumir Lapray is a community organizer specializing in rural communities. She works for the Démocratiser la Politique (Democratize Politics) initiative, a grassroots project addressing barriers for French working-class citizens running for office. Lumir is dedicated to developing a network of trained, organized, and funded, rural changemakers in a country where extremism dominates in many villages. In addition to her organizing work, Lumir is part of a weekly radio segment on a popular French radio station where she discusses current affairs and amplifies marginalized rural perspectives. Her first book, “Who Will Fight For Us?”, a narrative nonfiction investigation exploring how to reclaim support from extremists’ voters, will be published later this year. Lumir bases her work on lessons learned from labor organizing in the United States.
