Andrea Woods
2024-2025 Obama Foundation USA Leader
Associate Attorney, Civil Rights Practice, Budge & Heipt
Seattle, Washington
Andrea Woods is the associate attorney for Budge & Heipt civil rights practice, where she works to protect the civil rights of incarcerated people nationwide. Despite the politicization of criminal justice reform, she designed and negotiated a large-scale change of Memphis’s pretrial system to ensure no one waits years behind bars while they cannot afford bail. Andrea previously worked for seven years at the American Civil Liberties Union, where she sued jail officials across the country for unconstitutional practices, trained attorneys, and served as a media spokesperson. When COVID-19 struck, Andrea spearheaded the ACLU’s litigation on behalf of medically vulnerable and disabled people in jail.
