It started at MBK rising! – Michael B. Jordan Outlier Society Youth Fellowship

During MBK Rising! held in Oakland, California in February of 2019, actor, director, and executive producer Michael B. Jordan announced the launch of the Michael B. Jordan Outlier Society Fellowship Program in partnership with the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. The fellowship, designed to provide a paid internship and mentorship program for young people ages 18-24 residing in the LA area, and interested in media, arts, marketing, film/TV production, or branded entertainment was held throughout the summer.

Ten young people from Los Angeles and New York City earned the opportunity of a lifetime. Four of those individuals selected, were MBK Los Angeles partner Brotherhood Crusade applicants: Alejandro Ramirez Alvarado; Joseph Roa Gonzalez; Nicholas Coleman; and Katherine Braxton. The Fellows described their experience as “nothing short of amazing.” In addition to learning from Michael B. Jordan and his team, the candidates spent the summer creating media campaigns and facilitating feature films for companies like Tapestry (Coach, Stuart Weitzman and Kate Spade), Rogers & Cowan, Chernin Entertainment, 89 Writers, LeSane Entertainment, One Community, LLC, William Morris Entertainment, and Warner Brothers.

While mentoring was a critical focus of the fellowship program, the experience went well beyond traditional mentor-mentee relationships. Significantly, lifelong family bonds were forged, industry networks were developed and invaluable learning and growth took place.
